One of the celebrated cases in 1991 was the shooting of Maureen Hultman and Roland John Chapman by Claudio Teehankee Jr. Teehankee was senteced to life imprisonment and was given executive clemency by the president, Gloria Macapagal Arroyo on October 2, 2008. Apparently the family of the victim, specifically the Hultmans are outraged by the pardon.
Maureen Hultman, who was then 16 along with Roland John Chapman was shot in different locations in the head by Teehankee on July 13, 1991. Hultman died after fighting for her life in the hospital for 97 days while Chapman died shortly after the incident. Teehankee was accused of 3 separate criminal cases and then convicted with the help of 3 strong testimonies on 1995. I recall that when Vanilla Ice went to Manila he visited Maureen and offe
It is true that this is making headlines once again because this was one of the most celebrated cases and it involved people who were connected to people in power. Teehankee is the son of former chief Justice Claudio Teehankee Sr. and brother to Ambassador to WTO, Manuel Teehankee. The press would definitely get a field day out this and get the president in hot water. There was a settlement signed by both parties signifying that the Hultmans are not against granting pardon to the convicted. True or not if there were dealings we do not know of wouldn't it be better to have him stay in prison? For one, setting him free does not send a good message to the public on our Justice system. The guy killed 3 people. Murder for the killing of Chapman and the 2 counts of frustrated murder for the shooting of Hultman and Leino. Whether this was a celebrated case or not I think he should stay in jail. I still looking for the reasons why he was granted clemency.
Next in line for the pardon according to news is Rolito Go.... another character from a celebrated case....
